Special Cases, Virva Talonen

Commissioned by Helsinki Festival, Special Cases examines to the interface between the ordinary and the extraordinary.

Special Cases introduces a miniature community consisting of performers and the audience: women, men, young, old, rich, poor, beautiful, ugly, famous, unknown, interesting, boring, intelligent and stupid. The structures of hierarchy and the positions of power are put on display, and the work operates in the network of unwritten rules that direct interactions. Who is the most unique of all, who has the most power to bend the rules?
