Musical Spaces – a discussion event
The Musical Spaces event is an opportunity for participants to engage in discussion about the new concert halls being created in Europe and the philosophies that underpin them. Can their design, acoustics and programmes be used to transform music into a genuinely holistic experience for all?
Setting the scene for the event is Mr Laurent Bayle, director of the Philharmonie de Paris project, who will be joined on stage by a panel comprising composer Bruno Mantovani, Helena Hiilivirta, Director, Helsinki Music Centre, Jean-Louis Gavatorta, Director of Music, CulturesFrance and Tapani Länsiö, composer. The event will be chaired by Risto Nieminen, former Helsinki Festival Director and now Director of Music at the Gulbenkian Foundation.
Admission to the event, organised by Helsinki Festival and the Sibelius Academy, is free. Discussion in English.
Later the same day, Bruno Mantovani’s Le sette chiese will be performed as part of the Helsinki Festival 2009 by Pierre Boulez’s Ensemble Intercontemporain.
