Sinikka

I prefer observation to analysis. I approach art with a real “let’s see what you’ve got then” attitude. Theatre shouldn’t be too theatrical, music and exhibitions rarely disappoint. I do a little painting myself – I guess we all turn into artistes when we retire… Right now, I’m fascinated by skulls. They keep cropping up in my work – I’ve given up younger men and moved on to the old!

sinikka's festival picks:

Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Osmo Vänskä

A rare opportunity to see Osmo Vänskä, undoubtedly one of Finland’s most eminent conductors, performing on his native soil. Tchaikovsky is always a treat – especially when played by such talented musicians. I am particularly looking forward to hearing the solo flutist.

16.8

BUIKA

Music packed with emotion, dealing with that most universal of themes, forbidden love. Buika sings of a life very much lived and won’t fail to move.

14.8. - 2.11.

Gottberg-Kåhre project

As an amateur painter, this is definitely one for me. I thought Kåhre’s Kiasma exhibition a while back was great fun and I enjoyed Gottberg’s silhouettes at Galleria Forsblom. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the two of them have come up with together. And I can’t sign off without mentioning the Helsinki Art Association’s 30th anniversary exhibition at Sanomatalo – see you there!
